It's been a while since we've shared a Matthew 25 success story, but here’s one worth celebrating!
Two of the guiding pillars of Matthew 25 are congregational vitality and dismantling poverty, and yesterday, our small but mighty congregation embraced both. Together, we pooled our resources and hired a taco truck to serve the people of East Central Ogden. What started as a simple meal turned into a beautiful day of connection, generosity, and community.
With high spirits and big smiles, we had the joy of meeting new neighbors and reconnecting with familiar faces. We were especially grateful for the support of the Ogden Buddhist Church, which spread the word about our need for volunteers—two of their members showed up, ready to lend a hand!
Los Churros del Norte served up delicious taco plates and refreshing drinks, and the turnout was overwhelming—we ran out of tacos! But that didn’t stop us. We quickly gathered snacks and drinks from the church basement to ensure everyone left with something to enjoy.
Pastor Jared was there to greet our guests, offering a warm welcome to all, including those unsure if they’d find acceptance. He assured them that PC(USA) is a fully affirming Matthew 25 congregation, where everyone belongs. I was even asked to share information about LAP groups and hand out flyers to interested attendees—an unexpected but meaningful opportunity.
It was truly a wonderful day, and we are beyond grateful for the Matthew 25 initiative, which keeps us focused on what matters most: serving Jesus Christ through love and action.
